Project-Finishing Pact
Aug. 16th, 2007 03:12 pmIt has come to my attention recently that a great many of the people I know are drowning in unfinished projects. Often, these projects are 95% done, and taking up space all over the house.
I am no exception to this.
I'm going to commit to finishing my Ballet Camisole (in green), which is really really close to done. I need to do about 2 more inches of knitting on the straps, sew the shoulders together, weave in yarn ends, crochet the edging). Then, I will wear it before the weather turns too cold to do so.
Are you in? Will you commit to finish an unfinished project with me? Just one project.
I am going to finish this camisole by the end of the month. What will you finish by then?
oaktavia thinks that posting pictures at completion is a necessary part of this process. Posts about your progress between now & then are encouraged.

Date: 2007-08-16 07:53 pm (UTC)Well, I could begin by offering to finish sewing my bedroom curtains (I stopped before hemming them) and my diving drysuit undergarment (complete except for the cuffs and collar). Complete with pictures (a very good idea - may i suggest "before completion" and "after completion" shots?)
Or when I finally finish having that replacement mirror for the armoire cut and fitted.
Or when I repair the broken door on my dresser.
......
So many things, so close to done...!
Can I use this journal entry to add more projects as I knock them off the "undone" list?
Okay
Date: 2007-08-16 08:10 pm (UTC)I'll see what I can do. This is a nice reminder.

Date: 2007-08-16 08:16 pm (UTC)1) apply to medical school
2) enroll in a biology class
3) get a job that pays enough to live on
i'm not betting on finishing any craft projects until those get taken care of, and trying to work on those makes me want to cry.
you should definitely post pictures of your project-in-progress.

Date: 2007-08-19 02:04 am (UTC)best i've got right now is "poking at UC Berkeley Extension about classes for two hours the other day, until i fell apart and couldn't deal anymore." but it was something, and i did end up writing email to the MIT career-office person who's been helping me with med school stuff.
i've definitely got my home-sick-procrastinating hat on this afternoon, though. i started looking up what it'd take to make a slipcover for my wingback armchair. it's do-able, but not something i should start anytime soon.
thank you for the hugs, too, and it would be very good to catch up with you again. send me an email with stories from your end of the world, if you feel like it.

Date: 2007-08-17 01:33 pm (UTC)Project #1 completed!
Date: 2007-08-29 11:57 pm (UTC)Before:
This old armoire was gifted to me by a friend who was about to throw it out. It was exactly what I was looking for to hide all my scuba gear and ski equipment in. However, there was a missing mirror panel, and we had to disassemble it (using crowbars...ahem) to remove it from my friend's place.
That was in October. It looked like this:
Fortunately I was able to reassemble it into something stronger than it had been at my friend's place, thanks to a few parts from Home Depot.
I acquired a replacement mirror for the door from someone who was about to throw it away because a corner was chipped, and it was large enough to cut a replacement mirror pane from.
And that's how the project stayed, until today...
After:
What's more, the guy at the glass cutting place wouldn't even charge me for cutting the mirror down to size! 3 cuts, a quick sanding, and it got DONE. And he did this even though the glass shop was technically closed!
It took me only about 10 minutes (and 10 months) to install the new mirror panel.
