  • Got the house presentable.
  • Taught a handful of people how to build self-watering planters.
  • Hosted a Games Night with [livejournal.com profile] terse_scribe.
  • Met with [livejournal.com profile] doverider regarding how to remove the unloved shrubbery from the future raised bed intended for herbs and flowers.
  • Turned the compost (which had settled more, but which wasn't warm...hmmm). Found a couple of baby slugs under one of the bins, which were cute, but still evil.
  • Planted seeds for various cool-weather crops in the new vegetable garden. Had to run off to practice before properly watering them in, but it's supposed to rain today. I'll keep an eye out.
  • Went to rapper practice. One more practice prior to NEFFA.
  • Cooked dinner on the grill. Though it was dark by the time we finally got to it and I was grilling by the rear porch light, but the rite of passage toward Spring was a good one.

I'll be attending the London Morris Ale on June 8-10, as a stealth dancer with Cold Barn Morris.

I don't know a lot about our tour schedule, but here's what I do know:

If it's not too far off the beaten track for you to come and see us perform, that would be great.

Now, here's hoping they'll let my accordion across the border this time...

Shoes!

My dance shoes arrived last week. They're great. Really, really great. They fit properly, and seem comfy. They have an "infinitely adjustable" buckle, but also a snap, so you can set the strap the way you want, and then get into and out of them easily. My other dance shoes have a bit of elastic to do the same thing, but I kinda like the snap.

Sadly, they are not the color I initially wanted, nor really a color I want to keep. I got them for the sole purpose of seeing if this style and size fits properly, which it does. Now I return them, and wait the time it takes to get the ones I want.

I'm happy, though.

Thanks to the wonders of Google, I found a company that sells dance shoes in wide widths.

They're called Tic-Tac-Toes. I don't have any shoes from them yet, but so far that they've shown that they'll happily send you a catalog and swatches of any of their leathers on request. They'll let you buy shoes, try them on, and send them back, so long as you try them on on a carpeted surface. Their prices are reasonable (many of their women's dance shoes seem to cost about $70), and for a mere $20 more, they'll make any shoe that has a leather-wrapped heel (some of the short heels are painted to match) in any one of the 39 leather colors they carry. You can't return custom shoes, but they'll happily send you a non-custom version first to try on. I also saw a note in the catalog that said "we can make shoes in your fabric," but I don't know the details of that.

They say for real comfort, to purchase the "chorus line" shoes, which were designed for (you guessed it) people who dance in chorus lines, and who were regularly complaining about achy feet at the end of the day.

Again, I don't have any of their shoes in hand yet, but so far I'm extremely impressed with their customer service, their willingness to answer questions, their willingness to send swatches and otherwise have reasonable policies, and their prices.
