a New Mexico moment
Apr. 5th, 2006 10:35 amWhile driving to work this morning, I had to slow down, because a woman was carrying a very large tumbleweed across the street. It was perhaps 3 feet in diameter.
Why exactly she felt a need to carry it across the street is beyond me, but she seemed prepared for the task, because she was wearing heavy leather gloves.

*snicker*
Q: "Why did the woman help the tumbleweed across the road?"
A: "To get it to the other side"
*shrugs* I dunno

Date: 2006-04-05 10:28 pm (UTC)Tumbleweeds are a rare and endangered species that were severely depleted during the 50's and 60's during the "Age of Westerns" in Hollywood.
These days, Westerns (and hence tumbleweeds) aren't in such high demand, but each year, thousands of these majestic plants, these "Gypsies of the West" are killed when they tumble across roads and are run down by passing vehicles.
You probably saw a dedicated conservationist, working hard to preserve these important pieces of our American heritage.
