Since I spent some time on an airplane last week, I picked up my glove design project, and put some more work into it.

Last Winter, I got it into my head that I'd like to knit some gloves (mostly because [livejournal.com profile] tman_mcl wanted some), and after searching far and wide, I couldn't find a decent pattern. Patterns for fingerless gloves abound, but not plain old regular gloves. So, using some very inexpensive DK weight yarn, I set about designing a pattern for myself, using all of those not-quite-right patterns as inspiration.

Trying on a glove in progress is a thing to behold. Between stitch holders holding the live stitches for the fingers (3 in total -- front, back, and pinky), and the double-pointed needles for knitting the fingers in the round, it looks like something out of Frankenstein.

The first glove wasn't quite right, but it had promise. I learned things. Last night I finished a second one, and I declare it very nearly perfect.

Since the original goal was to make gloves for someone else, however, not me (though it's a good bet that I'll make some for myself as well), I now need to extrapolate from the me-sized glove into a wider range of sizes. If I actually pull that off, I should polish up the pattern, acquire a digital camera to take photos of the tricky parts, and submit it to Knitty or something.
